Pinhook —
Collaboration Series
In Pinhook’s Collaboration Series, we partner with luminaries working in other sensory-rich fields in a venture that epitomizes the curiosity-based approach Pinhook was founded on: sourcing great barrels of whiskey and meticulously crafting the blend and proof that brings out their finest characteristics. By exploring the possibilities of whiskey from varied perspectives, the Series’ collaborators invariably hit on something new and exciting. With these very limited releases, we continue to expand the possibilities of American whiskey, and pay tribute to the distillers and palates we most admire.

Garrett is probably best known as the author of The Brewmaster’s Table and the editor-in-chief of The Oxford Companion to Beer. A professional brewing veteran of more than 30 years, Garrett is also a great enthusiast of bourbon, Cognac, and mezcal. In 2014, he won the prestigious James Beard Award for Outstanding Wine, Spirits, or Beer Professional, and most recently founded the Michael James Jackson Foundation for Brewing and Distilling, which awards scholarships for technical education in brewing and distilling to people of color in the United States.

Our inaugural release in the Collaboration Series reflects our winemaker’s approach to whiskey, inspired by Co-Founder and Master Blender Sean Josephs’ time as a sommelier.

Sean and André met while working at the lauded New York restaurant Per Se and have been friends ever since. Their collaboration on two five-barrel batches, blended from the ten Wyoming Whiskey barrels Pinhook purchased in 2012, is a tribute to André’s superlative palate, his long-standing friendship with Sean, and the inspiration Pinhook draws from the world of wine.
